The Time has come to Sink Bill C-48

Statement by the Honourable Doug Black

Alberta Elected Senator Doug Black issued the following statement following the Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications’ vote to recommend to the Senate that Bill C-48 the Tanker Moratorium Act should not proceed.

“This is a very good day for Alberta.

“Today the Senate Transport Committee, has recommended to the Senate not to proceed with Bill C-48 the Tanker Ban. You know my view on the Tanker Ban. You’ve know it for months, but I’m happy to say the Committee has now adopted the same view. The Committee, at my urge travelled, to where they needed to go, to British Columbia, to Alberta, to Saskatchewan, and they heard that legislation is bad for Alberta and it’s bad for Canada.

“I am really pleased tonight to share with you that this is a very good day for Alberta.

“I want to thank the Committee for doing the hard work that was required, to listen to the hundreds of witnesses that appeared before the committee. To hear testimony, to read reports, and to come to understand that this Bill, the Tanker Ban, Bill C-48 is bad legislation.

“I now call upon the Senate of Canada to accept, without reservation, the report of the Committee so we can once and for all sink the Tanker Ban.”
