Senator Doug Black calls for action by the Federal Government on the Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion
Statement by the Honourable Doug Black
Ottawa, April 8, 2018 – Alberta Elected Senator Doug Black issued the following statement following Kinder Morgan’s announcement of their suspension of non-essential spending on Trans Mountain Expansion Project:
“I am shocked and deeply disappointed for all Canadians by the lack of action from the Federal Government which has brought us to this brink. My worst fears have been realised.
“I call on the Prime Minister to immediately act. There is no reason that Kinder Morgan should be asked to solve disputes between governments and assume political risks that are completely outside their control.
“The government of British Columbia is holding Canada for ransom, and the federal government is not stepping up to defend the interest of Canada.
“The Government should immediately indicate their unequivocal support for my Bill S-245 the Trans Mountain Pipeline Project Act, and to declare the Trans Mountain Pipeline for the general advantage of Canada.
“This act can begin to provide the certainty needed to allow the Trans Mountain project to advance.”
