Statement by the Honourable Doug Black on the Federal Government’s Supercluster Announcement
“I was surprised and disappointed when I learned today that the Government’s Innovation Supercluster announcement by the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Navdeep Bains did not support either of the Alberta based proposals.
“Both the Smart Agrifood Supercluster based in Olds, and the Smart, Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure Supercluster based in Edmonton were bypassed.
“This is yet another example of the Federal Government overlooking Alberta and our ability to contribute to Canadian prosperity.
“Given the economic turmoil we have been battling, this lack of support for innovation, and the development of a more diversified Alberta economy is inexplicable.
“This announcement can only advance frustration in Alberta at the very time when many Albertans feel the Federal Government is prepared to enjoy the benefits of Alberta’s resources and Albertans ingenuity-but not offer any support in return.
